SVARA is thrilled to offer a day-camp version of its flagship event, Queer Talmud Camp this summer in New York City. We will gather as queer folks, radicals, and seekers to immerse in rigorous yeshiva-style learning amid warm, loving, and joyful community.
At SVARA Day Camps we will build a vibrant learning space that celebrates queer culture, elevates voices from the margins, and reveals the deeply rooted radical queerness of Jewish traditions. Day Camp is open to anyone who knows the alef-bet, whether you’re brand new to SVARA or have learned with us many times before!
To weave our in-person learning across space and place, we will have an online kick-off event and CRASH Talk with SVARA Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Benay Lappe and Associate Rosh Yeshiva Laynie Soloman on Thursday, August 1. After grounding our learning at the kick-off event, we will collectively learn the same sugya (Talmud text) in each bet midrash. In our sugya we’ll witness a battle between two houses and wrestle with how we hold on to what we value most, without letting our connections fall apart.
All of the virtual and in-person spaces will have captions as well as ASL interpretation. Please reach out to contact@svara.org for more information!
