Look & Listen: A Silent Gallery Soundscape
Look & Listen reimagines the Silent Disco that first hit the scene in the 1960s as an immersive sound experience, creating a night of heightened contemplation and sonic socializing. Through specially curated soundtracks delivered via wireless headphones, visitors are invited to discover new ways to explore three distinct exhibitions at the museum—Fallout: Atoms for War & Peace; Puerto Rico in Print: The Posters of Lorenzo Homar; and Copy/Paste/Print/Repeat: Mike King & the Art of the Gig Poster. Each channel offers a unique auditory perspective on the shows: Channel 1: Puerto Rico in Print A lush, percussive soundscape celebrating Puerto Rican resilience, art, and political expression. From bomba and plena to contemporary Caribbean beats, this channel echoes Lorenzo Homar’s call for cultural pride and liberation. Channel 2: Fallout An ambient, cinematic mix evoking the Cold War era—nuclear tension, utopian dreams, and atomic design. Expect eerie synths, archival recordings, and sonic meditations on fear and power. Channel 3: Copy/Paste/Print/Repeat A tapestry of iconic sounds featuring the rock, punk, and pop legends of yesterday and today. Expect Mike King’s gig posters to be brought to life by the musicians who inspired them. Featuring DJ Bembona Brooklyn-born and raised, DJ Bembona brings an Afro-diasporic, community-centered sound to the night. Roam the galleries at your own pace. Sit. Reflect. Grab a drink with friends and tune into a channel together as you absorb the work on view. Help us celebrate West Side Fest with an evening of deep listening, quiet connection, and thoughtful observation. Note: This event is recommended for ages 16 and older due to the complex themes explored in some of the exhibitions. Seating will be available throughout the space. Please note that final entry to the museum is 8:15pm.
