I'm Hyunchul Lim, a PhD student in Information Science at Cornell University .
I'm developing a wearable ring to recognize American Sign Language (ASL) to facilitate communication between hearing individuals and the DHH (Deaf and Hard of Hearing) community.
I'm looking to recruit native/fluent ASL signers for a fingerspelling recognition project using a wearable ring.
The task is straightforward. You will be asked to perform fingerspelling of words in front of a laptop while wearing a smart ring on your thumb.
We are asking for participation in a 3-day study, with each session lasting about 1-2 hours (depending on your signing speed and break time). You will need to visit on three different days:
Day 1: Perform 1,164 words
Day 2: Perform 1,164 words
Day 3: Perform about 500 words + survey
Participants will receive $80 ($40/an hour) as compensation for each day, totaling $240. Compensation will be provided upon completion of all data collection.
The study location is TBD, but it will be near your residence.
The project is under IRB number: IRB0009898 at Cornell University.
Please share this study with your community and hope to find me participants for this study.
