On the opening weekend of our special exhibition Virgil Abloh: “Figures of Speech,” honor the profound legacy of artist and designer Virgil Abloh alongside members of his creative community. The conversation features curator Antwaun Sargent in dialogue with Tawanda Chiweshe, creative director of the design firm Alaska Alaska, and Tremaine Emory, founder of Denim Tears and creative director of Supreme. The exhibition—developed by the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and reorganized for the Brooklyn Museum with never-before-seen additions from the artist’s archive—carves out space for gathering, in sharp contrast to the lack of space historically afforded to Black artists and Black people in cultural institutions. In the collaborative spirit of Abloh’s practice, this program gathers a group of his friends and creative partners to explore the ways their work in fashion, visual art, and architecture has intersected.
