My name is Emily Fleischer and I am currently casting SOUND OF METAL a feature film by Darius Marder (writer: The Place Beyond The Pines) We are conducting a ‘real people’ search for Deaf People who might be right for several lead and/or supporting roles in SOUND OF METAL. Below is a list of the kinds of people we’re looking for – if people are NYC based we’d love to meet them in person and/or they can send intro videos (phone videos are fine) telling us about who they are – what they do for a living or where they study anything at all really will be helpful. [JOE] 50 to 70 years old, all ethnicities male is an American veteran, alcoholic who lost his hearing while fighting in the first Gulf War. Devastated after losing his family to alcoholism he picked himself up and built a community for Deaf addicts centered around physical work and self awareness. Joe is a quietly charismatic leader. His wisdom is born of experience. He has an unrelenting work ethic. He is kind but tough. Spiritual. A true mentor and visionary. [DIANE]28 to 35 years old, all ethnicities female. Diane is a Deaf 2nd grade teacher. She’s beautiful, affectionate and intelligent. She radiates goodness but can be tough when she needs to be. [JENN]21 to 35 years old, all ethnicities female. Deaf, gay, goth, tough on the outside but with a huge heart. She’s the only Deaf child of a small family from the Midwest. She is an addict. She has been bullied her whole life. She’s not quick to trust. She’s a reader but has a disdain for anything overtly sentimental. Her cutting humor is her greatest ally. [MICHAEL]9 to 12 years old, male is Deaf and hyperactive. He’s used to being in trouble. He’s bright but he’s angry. He comes from a hearing, working class family who don’t fully embrace Deaf culture. [JEREMY]18 to 30 years old, all ethnicities male.
